Spurs have been exploring the possibility of signing a new midfielder since last summer. They were linked with a number of options during the recently concluded transfer window, with Connor Gallagher thought to be a key target.

However, they failed to sign anyone before the deadline. It has been suggested that the Lilywhites are looking to strengthen their engine room next year after failing to sign a new midfielder this summer.

Gallagher was considered their main target, but with the Chelsea star now a regular member of Mauricio Pochettino’s first-team squad this season, it seems unlikely that the Argentine boss will allow the Englishman to leave.

So, having given up hope of signing their number one option, Spurs appear to be looking to turn their attention to other targets, with Philips now emerging as a serious option.

Phillips to Tottenham Hotspur

According to Football Transfers, Tottenham are interested in signing Phillips and they may choose to take concrete steps to sign him in the upcoming January transfer window.

The report further claims that Phillips became frustrated with the lack of playing time at the Etihad Stadium and decided to move on in January. Therefore, if Spurs formally express interest, they could try to sign him next year.

However, Football Transfer says signing Phillips won’t be easy for the north London club, with Newcastle United and Everton also plotting a move for him.

Sources suggest Arsenal and Liverpool are also keeping a close eye on the midfielder’s status ahead of a possible move next year. As a result, Tottenham are likely to face stiff competition from English rivals to complete any potential deal for the Englishman.

Although the former Leeds United star failed to show his best form for Manchester City after joining for £45 million at the beginning of last season, he is a talented player and he would be a great addition to Spurs if they choose to sign him. Could be a shrewd signing for Spurs. .

However, it will be interesting to see if Anj Postkoglu’s side ultimately decide to sign him in the upcoming transfer window.
