Alexis McAllister’s best Liverpool starting XI

9 June 2023 - 11:23 pm

Liverpool went into the 2023 summer transfer window knowing they needed to strengthen their midfield, and while they haven’t fixed that yet, they’ve taken big steps forward They have reportedly signed their apparent top targetAlexis Mac Allister of Brighton.

The World Cup winner is one of the most efficient midfielders in the Premier League in 2022/23, scoring 10 goals for the Seagulls in a historic campaign. He was instrumental in Roberto De Zerby’s side’s Europa League qualifying campaign at the highest level as a creator, progressor and ball-handler in midfield.

Liverpool now have more options in how to deploy their starting XI and midfield. Let’s take a look at the best possible XI the Reds could have on paper with the addition of Mac Allister.

Goalkeeper Alisson

LB Andrew Robertson

CB Virgil Van Dijk

CB Ibrahima Konaté

RB Trent Alexander-Arnold

Nothing has changed in the defense which, honestly, should be one of the best in Europe on paper. More depth could help the Reds here, but this back four is rock solid in front of Alisson, who was once again one of Europe’s elite goalkeepers last season. Van Dijk is ready for a bounce-back season as long as the midfield stays the course.

DM Thiago Alcantara

DM Stefan Bajčetić

I’m Alexis McAllister

Jurgen Klopp usually uses a flat midfield three in his 4-3-3 formation, but with McAllister he has the flexibility to push one a little higher. He could have Mac Allister on the right and Thiago on the left, but it might be better for defensive stability to have Thiago and Stefan Bajčetić play a double center. Thiago is excellent in this position for Bayern Munich, which allows Bajcetic more freedom with the ball.

In any case, McAllister is an immediate starter and upgrade for Liverpool. Harvey Elliott is a prospect and he and Cody Gakpo are attacking midfield options. Also, if Fábio Carvalho is not loaned out, there is Fábio Carvalho.

As for Fabinho, the phrase “class is eternal” comes to mind. He is an excellent defensive midfielder. But he didn’t have a great season. When fit, Bajcetic is the best player in 2022/23 and if you look at the quality he showed at the age of 18, he is Liverpool’s future. At full strength, he, Thiago and McAllister would form a balanced and technically prolific midfield.

LW Luis Diaz

RW Mohamed Salah

Gakpo deserves playing time as he clearly possesses great technical quality and tactical intelligence. However, Luis Dias is one of the best wingers in the world, capable of creating chances and destroying defenses with his finishing skills. Plus, he can score goals.

Darwin Núñez is another great young talent who looks primed for an even better second season, especially since he’ll have Mac Allister feeding him through the ball.

Salah is Salah. He is the most accomplished player in the Premier League and a historic figure, even in this storied league. His 2022/23 season has not been full of praise, but he has scored 19 goals and 12 assists. On a better team, he would once again be the talk of the Ballon d’Or.
